How CarIntellect Works
CarIntellect connects to official UK government vehicle data, then applies AI analysis to turn raw MOT history into a clear, buyer-focused report.
Enter a UK registration
You enter any UK vehicle registration number - no account required, no payment needed for the free check. CarIntellect accepts any current or historical UK registration format and normalises it automatically before querying government databases.
We retrieve official vehicle data
CarIntellect queries two official UK government data sources in real time:
- DVSA MOT History API - the complete record of every MOT test on the vehicle: dates, pass/fail results, mileage at each test, advisory notes, and failure reasons.
- DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service - official vehicle facts including make, model, engine size, fuel type, colour, tax status, and MOT expiry.
This data is sourced directly from government APIs and reflects the official record as it stands at the time of your query. CarIntellect does not estimate, supplement, or invent any vehicle data.
AI analysis identifies patterns
The full CarIntellect Report uses AI to analyse the vehicle's MOT history as a complete picture rather than a list of test results. The analysis focuses on:
- → Failure and advisory patterns - recurring issues across multiple tests, or failure categories that suggest systemic rather than isolated problems.
- → Mileage consistency - whether the recorded mileage at each MOT test follows a plausible, consistent progression over the vehicle's life.
- → Advisory trends - whether advisories from one year were addressed, or whether the same notes have been carried forward across multiple tests.
- → Overall maintenance picture - whether the test history suggests a well-maintained vehicle, or one where maintenance has been deferred or issues repeatedly flagged without action.
AI analysis is advisory only. It interprets historical patterns in official data; it cannot predict future mechanical behaviour or replace a physical inspection.
You receive your report
The free preview is instant and includes vehicle facts plus an MOT history summary. The full paid report (£2.99) is generated after payment and typically takes 30–90 seconds.
The full report includes:
- AI risk score (0–100) with Buy / Caution / Avoid verdict
- Key findings with evidence from the MOT record
- Mileage history and consistency analysis
- Buyer action checklist with severity ratings
- Negotiation leverage points where relevant
- Downloadable PDF
Why official data matters
The MOT test record is one of the most reliable documents in a used car's history because it is produced by an independent testing station and submitted directly to the DVSA - not the seller or the owner. MOT history cannot be edited retroactively. For a buyer, this makes it a more objective record of a vehicle's maintenance and condition trajectory than a service history alone.
CarIntellect applies AI analysis on top of this independent record. See data sources for full details.
